Taekwondo is a Korean martial arts with a heavy emphasis on Kicks!
We also practice a self defense style called Hapkido.
Hapkido is a highly eclectic Korean martial art.
It is a form of self-defense that employs joint locks,
grappling and throwing techniques of other martial arts,
as well as kicks, punches, and other striking attack.
means "to kick or destroy with foot";Kwon
means "to punch with fist"; andDo
means "way" or "art". Taekwondo is well known for its extensive use of kicking techniques, the rationale for this being that the legs provide the greatest reach and are the strongest weapons at a empty-handed martial artist's disposal. Nevertheless, as with many other martial arts, Taekwondo is a combination of combat technique, self-defence, sport, entertainment and philosophy. Physically it develops strength, speed, flexibility, balance and stamina; mentally it develops focus, concentration, discipline, memory, awareness and respect.
The five tenets of Taekwondo are:
- self control;
- indomidable spirit.
